Review Detail:

i tried everything and it came down to the USP compact and the Sig 229. i chose the H&K and have not regretted it. its accurate, especially considering its small barrel length. i was told by a gunsmith to dry fire the gun to smooth out the trigger. after a lot of that, the firing pin broke in half durring a range session. H&K fixed it for free and very quickly. they have reportedly improved the quality of the metal for the firing pin. by the way, the gunsmith is now out of business. (surprise?) i did take several trips to the range to restore my confidence in the gun as it is my everyday carry weapon. i had Trijicon night sights installed and smoothed out the sharp edges on the grip. and like a previous poster, i carry it in a Blade-Tech IWB holster that fit the gun and me perfectly. as stated before, it will take some time to get used to shooting a lighter weight pistol in a hotter caliber. after a lot of practice, one can become proficient with it just like any other firearm. the only failure to feed i ever had was due to a Cor-Bon bullet that had a bent rim and the bullet loaded crooked. not the guns fault. the combination safety/decocker is the perfect setup in my opinion (and a main reason i chose it over the Sig)as well as the ambidextrous magazine release that is virtually impossible to activate accidentally like many of the push button releases found on other guns. the gun is easy to disassemble and the barrel is easy to clean clean thanks to the polygonal rifling. the gun is not much on form, being one of the uglier guns out there, but its function is fatanstic. it looks, functions and feels like a serious fighting/self defense tool. it is ambiguous about ammo, feeding everything out there that i have tried. point of impact changes very slightly with bullet weight though. in my opinion, one of the best choices for personal defense on the market.
