→ | What is the best combat/tactical pistol? |
| | By Yahoo Answers | | 2008-04-03 15:50:10 | | I'm looking for a .45 that functions like an AK-47 in terms of durability, ruggedness & reliability. Basically, something the special forces would use that functions in sand, dirt, mud, snow, & rain. Something that I could depend on.
Preferably a pistol with a large magazine capacity, high accuracy and easy to obtain "toys" like suppressors & lasers.
My top choice is the H&K USP Tactical because it meets all my requirements. Many US Special Forces also use this weapon.
Can you convince me that a 1911 would be better? If so, which one? What about the Sig Sauer P220 .45 Combat? Any other choices?
I'm pretty set on the HK, except for the price. I only want the highest quality, the best of the best. So I'm willing to spend a couple grand. But I also want to make a wise "investment." | | Answered By: Maker | |

That being said the HK Tactical makes an oustanding platform to mount a suppressor too. The sights are already extra tall to accomodate the supressor. It is from the start an offensive handgun and with mutiple modes of carry, one of them should fit your shooting style. The suppressor makes shooting a breeze, the recoil impulse is slowed down and it feels almost like some kind of big bore .22, fairly quiet, still a lot of movement but none of the harshness when in recoil, and a 230gn .45 acp bowling to it's target. Great fun.
Now what do you want? Home defense gun? Good choice, the suppressor will keep your ears in tact, a good light laser combo will help to ID the threat and intimidate it. Concealed carry? Not hardly, unless you are a very large man and fairly out of shape...
Any of the major brand names make quality pistols. I for one would recommend the Glock 21SF. You get capacity, but will have to buy a threaded barrel and extended sights.
The ole 1911? Yeah it works, but reliabililty issues and the need for tuning hold it back. The guns that Marine Force Recon guys use are highly tuned, use very expensive parts, and require talented armorers to put together.
Honestly though any of the major brand names make pistols good enough for use. The HK will take the least additional work to mount a fully useable suppressor too. |

really acurate fast shooting safe dependable and is very powerful great gun
But i havent really seen many toys like silencers for it
mainly because i never reall look for them | | | | User: Dave M | | 1911 gov. 45 | | | | User: elChupacabra! | | Well, to answer your questions about reliability in adverse conditions, the HK USP Tactical is probably the best choice - it was designed as a somewhat smaller, yet still as accurate and reliable, counterpart to the HK Mark 23 SOCOM pistol, which had to survive incredible torture tests in order to gain acceptance by the Special Forces community. For reliability and ruggedness, the HK USP Tactical is really your best choice, unless you want the enormous Mk23 (designed and designated as an "offensive pistol" - a major departure from the traditional view of pistols as sidearms).
However, the 1911 has established a strong footing as one of the best handguns ever developed - it is a 97 year old design that is still relied on by SF operators across the branches, including Delta Force Operators, who are said to each be given a stipend with which to purchase their own customized 1911. I've heard Larry Vickers, ex SF and Delta Operator, say that in terms of shootability, nothing comes close to it. Plenty of people agree. In fact, you'd probably find 5 or 6 US SF Operators carring a 1911 for every one carring an HK of any type, but that's not to put down the HK.
It really comes down to where your priorities are - if you want the greater magazine capacity, go with the USP Tactical. If you want to mount a suppressor, go with the USP Tactical. If you want the classic, highly tuned masterpiece of handguns, go with the 1911. You can't go wrong either way - they are equally incredible firearms, but for slightly different purposes. It sounds to me like you would be best served by the HK USP Tactical.
As far as SIGs go, you'd be stepping down from the HK if you went that route. I own both an HK P2000 in .40S&W and a SIGPRO SP2022 in 9mm, and I like them both, but I can tell you that the Sig really isn't in the same ballpark as the HK. It's a fine gun, don't get me wrong, but it just doesn't compare - and most people I've met who disagree haven't had any exposure to the HK. Everyone I know who has shot both agree - the HK is really the tip of the top when it comes to handguns.
Anything below a SIG, including Springfield XD, Smith & Wesson, Glock, and Beretta, is really not qualified to compete with the HK or a good custom 1911 either. Those are general consumption guns that don't come anywhere near to HK or a good 1911. | | | | User: sugarguy103 | | Springfield Armory XD (which means extreme duty) has multiple calibers to choose from, ie: 9mm, .40 cal., and .45 acp. I have one and would personally choose it over any glock or hk usp. The springy comes in a four inch model and a five inch tactical model. It also won pistol of the year multiple time in a row. In the .45 acp it will hold 14 rounds. It also comes with a tactical rail for your laser/flashlight combo, or you can go with an internal laser built right into the guide rod. Also comes with polished feed ramp and chamber, barrel is chrome lined as well. It is an easy pistol to maintain, shoot and clean. Like I said I would prefer an XD over a glock or usp. I actually had a usp compact and couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with it and i have been shooting for about 15 years. The Xd will run you about 600.00 buck or so. If you were to buy a Springfield Xd you would be making a very wise decision and investment. | | | | User: C_F_45 | | Buy a Colt 1911. Send that pistol to King's Gunworks in California. Tell'em what you want. They will fix you up.

Sure the 1911 is super but I'm not certain it is the best in this day and age. I like the Glock (make mine a 10mm) but the H&K USP certainly is a top contender for best tactical pistol. If it is a .45 acp you want then certainly, that is the one I'd pick.
